ACCOMMODATION IN INGLETON

INGLETON
in the Yorkshire Dales
ideal for the Dales, the Lakes and the coast,
it really does warrant a full weeks stay.
The popular village of Ingleton is located below Ingleborough Mountain on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Ingleborough is one of Yorkshires highest peaks at 724 metres (2375 feet) which together with Whernside (736m) and Pen-y-ghent (694m) forms the famous Three Peaks of Yorkshire walking route. Whilst fitter folks can complete the 25 mile circuit in around 9 hours, each peak can be ascended individually on a "one a day" basis during a stay in Ingleton.

Ingleborough is easily climbed from Ingleton, or via Clapham or Chapel le Dale.

Whernside is possible from Ingleton (around 14 miles return) but the routes from Ribblehead and Dent (both only a short drive from Ingleton) are shorter.

Pen-y-ghent is normally ascended from Horton in Ribblesdale (the usual start point of the Three Peaks races) which is a short drive from Ingleton where there is more choice of accommodation.

As well as its location for the Three Peaks of Yorkshire, Ingleton is also well known for the famous Waterfalls Walk, an 8Km circuitous route along two river valleys which provides great dales views and takes in some 10 or 12 waterfalls along the way.

Just a mile and a half from Ingleton in White Scar Cave, the longest show cave in England, and at Clapham (4 miles) is Ingleborough Cave, another great show cave. Also near Clapham is Gaping Ghyll, a very large Pot Hole down which one may be lowered in a bosuns chair during two bank holiday weeks.

Ingleton has a number of guest houses, pubs and cafes, some interesting shops and an outdoor, heated, swimming pool - only open in the warmer months.

Ingleton is a pleasant and friendly place to stay, not only for local places of interest but also for trips into the dales, to the Lake District or to the coast.
