Consisting of 72 miles of track with 17 major viaducts, the greatest of which is the Ribblehead Viaduct (104 feet high and 440 yards long and 24 arches), and 14 tunnels, the longest of which is Blea Moor at 2629 yards, the Settle to Carlisle railway is a stunning way to see the Yorkshire Dales landscape. It is not neccessary to travel the complete distance, you can simply take a short journey and still see more of the dales than you would by road. The normal trains are simple railcars but a number of special stream trips are run by various rail companies throughout the yesr.
